Mature fruit
Sacha Inchi seedsSacha Inchi (Plukenetia Volubilis L.), is a rich and natural legacy from the ancient civilizations of Peru culminating with the Incas, which has been carefully guarded by native communities in the Peruvian Rainforest. It is a native oleaginous plant which seeds have a high content of unsaturated fatty acids such as Omega 3, 6 & 9, and a high level of proteins.
It flowers five months after planted, and bears seeds around the eighth month. The fruit is star shaped, and holds dark brown seeds, slightly enlarged in the center and squashed towards the edges.
The Sacha Inchi is probably one of the few Amazonian plants with a continuous production of fruits. Its lifespand is over 10 years, and it is proving to be a reliable source of income for the Amazonian growers.
